Innovator that bested price control system was CRUSHED with GOVERNMENT POWER! Where is that Free Market.....?

............ that Liberals, Collectivist Socialists claim that causes our problems?

Liberals, Collectivist Socialists etc just do NOT get it! HUGE CORPORATIONS CAN USE GOVERNMENT POWER TO CRUSH COMPETITION. OTHERWISE, FREE MARKET COMPETITION WOULD KEEP PRICES LOW AND QUALITY HIGHER. The following article is the perfect example:

Dairy Industry Crushed Innovator Who Bested Price-Control System

In the summer of 2003, shoppers in Southern California began getting a break on the price of milk.

A maverick dairyman named Hein Hettinga started bottling his own milk and selling it for as much as 20 cents a gallon less than the competition, exercising his right to work outside the rigid system that has controlled U.S. milk production for almost 70 years. Soon the effects were rippling through the state, helping to hold down retail prices at supermarkets and warehouse stores.

That was when a coalition of giant milk companies and dairies, along with their congressional allies, decided to crush Hettinga's initiative. For three years, the milk lobby spent millions of dollars on lobbying and campaign contributions and made deals with lawmakers, including incoming Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.).

Last March, Congress passed a law reshaping the Western milk market and essentially ending Hettinga's experiment -- all without a single congressional hearing.

';They wanted to make sure there would be no more Heins,'; said Mary Keough Ledman, a dairy economist who observed the battle.

So typical of Big Government.

I am glad you point this out.

Our government is also trying to push thru a bogus program to force all farms to ID thier animials with Microchips. It puts a huge paperwork burden on small farms but big farms can get around it by ID'ing in groups. This will basically squash all small farms that raise animals. Really stupid idea but our Socialist government is trying to approve this nation wide. Several states already have it as law. I believe it is called by the acronym NAII or NAIS

here is another true life example altho it is a long time ago. there was an innovative car maker who came a long and started a car manufacturing plant in the 30's. His name was Tucker. There is a movie by the same name about his life. the big Auto makers got together and made sure Tucker would not survive as an Auto maker. With innovation out the window, it set up the American Auto industry to loose market share later down the road to Japan, Germany, and later even Korea. Today the American Auto Makers are fighting for their businesses to not go belly up and begging for bail outs.

how would things be different if American Government made sure the little guy could survive instead of siding with the huge corporations and squashing them like bugs.Innovator that bested price control system was CRUSHED with GOVERNMENT POWER! Where is that Free Market.....?
I agree, but it is ultimately the government that is destroying the free market, they say capitalism is failing but do not grasp that it is all the restrictions and political agendas imposed by the government that is destroying capitalism, everything they get there hands on seems to go downhill and then they blame it on something or someone else
Great story and interesting it took them that long. Considering the corrupt courts. With 35,000 lobbyist giving our elected watchful politicians over $4.2 billion a year it sure makes you wonder.

Have a great 2009!
The Farmers market, and Flea market sometimes has a box of free items. That's the closest we have to a free market.
Another case of Congress working for themselves rather than for America.
Who was running the ';government'; in 2003?
why do you think Obama wants to get rid of lobbyists?
