With the new conflict heating up right now, we'll be lucky if our oil prices don't top the $4/gallon mark before long. I can't stand Dubya, but he won't have much control over that.
People are funny, they like it when their house price goes up, their stocks picks go up , their collectibles prices go up etc but they don't like it when someone Else's products price goes up. Which way you want it?

Okay, let me clue you in on something. Gas prices in Germany (where I am right now) are well over $7 a gallon. In the 1960s, when this country was reeling from WWII, gas was nearly $2 a gallon. And that's when the currency favored the dollar.
At that time, President Bush was, what, fifteen? Is he supposed to fix that, too?
Funny, people say he's such a dictator, and a Fascist (not you specifically, but many others), yet he needs to take control of more things? Can't have it both ways. Either he's a dictator, or he lets business set the prices. Which is it?

Other than pushing for a cut in Federal fuel taxes, or pushing for further relaxation of environmental protection laws, what is the guy supposed to do? He can't just wave a magic wand and make prices go down, and he doesn't have the authority to tell private oil companies what to do.

First is Socialism and second is Capitalism. the concept of price control is applicable under the socialist system. and we know what happened to most of the socialist economies. the solution lies not in control but with better management of economy. better economic policy and their implementation. but for some essential commodities you may say some kind of price control is required but not for everything, let the market forces determine the price. for the last 50 years we had the price control system but can you say condition of poor was better at that time.
Price controls never work. I remember how difficult it was to purchase anything in the old USSR back in the 70's when they had too many Ruples chasing too few goods. When the price it too low, then too few goods come to the controlled market... they find their way to the black market where they are sold at a price the market will bear. I suspect price controls will always generate criminal enterprises.
I suggest India implement a progressive tax system to build infrastructure %26amp; assist those beneath the poverty line with better education %26amp; medical care. The rich live way too well there %26amp; are almost kings.

Gvmt cannot limit prices. When they do, production decreases and prices increase. But since prices can't rise, production again declines. New products come out that are similar and have a very high price.
If you want lower prices, lessen gvmt control and implement more Capitalism.

Actually 10 is good these days. Generally the price should be 3-4 the cost of the item.
So a restauranteur has complete control over his prices but if he wants to make money he must cost out his products and price accordingly.
