Everyone in the US has drunk the Kool Aid of drilling in ANWR as a means to solve the energy crisis. Spoon fed this stuff by the media and Government.
There is only ONE way to lower the price of oil and gas effectively. You have to lower the demand for it. Whether we drill our brains out in ANWR or the continental shelf wont matter much in the long run as even if this supply comes on line. First off, its not as if ANWR will have production limitations etc and as another poster wrote, the US doesnt have the infrastructure in place like refineries etc. Blame that problem on our gov't's lack of a comprehensve energy plan for 30 years now.
In any case, lowering the demand for gasoline is the only way to effectively lower the price of gasoline. We need to get rid entirely of those gas guzzling SUVs, etc., We need to embrace more alternative forms of energy such as clean coal, renewables, nuclear, etc. The time is not too far away when there will be a lot more electric cars on the road. That will obviously cut the demand for gasoline by a lot (but increase the demand for eliectricity) so we need to prepare for that contigency too.
ANWR is not the answer. It will help a little in the medium term but it is NOT the solution.
